Damnit. Robocop Remake Also Officially Too Awesome to Ignore

Well, you thought you didn’t want a remake of Robocop. I understand the sentiment. I must have watched the original two dozen times. It was the perfect 80’s action film: It had resonating themes, uber-violence, and some gloriously cheesy one-liners that glued the whole thing together. For the better part of six months, I’ve been ignoring the Robocop remake headlines because I just didn’t want to hear about it.

But that was before I knew Jose Padhilla was directing. Oh, you mean the Brazilian director behind the brilliantly super violent Elite Squad films? OK. OK. You’re on the right track. What else you got?

Joel Kinnamon (“The Killing”) as Robocop?

Damn. Not who I’d have immediately thought of, but nice choice. I’m listening. Can you top that?

Gary Oldman as Norton?

All right! Now you’re speaking my language. I’m picking up what you’re putting down. You got anything else?

Sam Jackson as Pat Novak?

Sam Jackson? Well, he’s in some good movies, and he’s in some terrible ones. I’ll call that a push. You’re going to need someone better than that to completely sell me on a Robocop remake. Anything else up your sleeve?

Hugh Laurie as the evil CEO villain responsible for creating Robocop?

Umm. Fuck. And Yes!
